![]() ![]() I’ll have to re-start the entire campaign but since it’s a short game and since I love it anyway, what do I care?Īnyway, I thought I share my good fortune. I copied the old game saves over but only the ‘Free Game’ saves are present. (However, Railroad Tycoon does not re-arrange my desktop: I don’t know why that is.) Also, the ‘Campaign’ games saved from the old Vista install are nowhere to be found. The only very minor issues are that after running the game, my Windows 10 desktop is re-arranged because AT runs at a very low screen resolution. I don’t have screen grabs to illustrate but it seems that the game was trying to install every time, but something was upsetting it. Interestingly, the extraction process which seems to have frozen the system was part of the install, but the extraction dialogue wasn’t quite the same. No fancy tweaking or ISO mounting required. I was able to access Task Manager and stop this process, leaving the pukka install process running (although virtually all processes where reporting zero percent of CPU/RAM usage at this point). When I checked, running ‘behind’ the dialogue was an Airline Tycoon extraction process – lots of files being unpacked but the process had frozen at about 70%. I don’t know how long I’d left the computer churning away but when I returned, there was an install dialogue on-screen. Since I couldn’t even get to Task Manager, I was going to crash the laptop when I had to leave the laptop for a few minutes. I loaded the CD and everything went exactly as before – the whole system froze and I was completely locked out. Unbelievably, I got it sorted – what a shocker!Īs it’s Christmas, I thought I’d try and install it once again. ![]()

VSCode has no problem with lagging and is free. While it feels similar to the other two, it gives easy Git synchronization, something ST offers but requires you to pay for it. One aspect that makes it stand out is the efficient inclusion of a debugger, which saves a lot of time. Visual Studio Code (VSCode) is another alternative. Also, it does not have all the features that make browsing through ST easy like Goto. The main problem is that it lags when having to handle larger programs. It is also free, which is ideal for newcomers. It comes with a previously installed Package Manager which makes it easier to use for beginners. What are good alternatives?Ītom is known as one of the biggest competitors to Sublime Text because they feel very similar to each other. Sublime shines when it comes to handling large files and difficult processes. Its syntax highlighting engine stands out among other alternatives. For beginners in the world of coding, it might be better to start with another program like Atom which is similar to Microsoft in layout. This feature lends itself to experienced coders. It overcomes this by the quality of the packages offered.Īnother reason why it is excellent is its ability to be customaziable. Specifically, it lacks a wide array of plugins. The main problem that it faces is the fact that it's not open-source limiting how much development it receives, unlike Atom. When compared to Atom or Visual Studio, it stands far above in speed and capabilities. Overall, it is known for its speed and smoothness. Activated by ctrl+shift+P, you can use it to search through the syntax, and so on without needing to use menus and or key bindings. The command palette holds the functions that are used irregularly. Class, functions, and methods all can be classified according to the need of the individual. Goto Definition allows the user to index everything. The options can also be used together to find even more specific parts of the file. This function will save a lot of time when you need to modify a particular part of your code you may not remember. Here, you can type in to go to symbols.įor jumping to a line of text, hit: then the number, and for searching use #. Understanding how to use Goto Everywhere will enable you to navigate your way and find what you need. You can use JSOspN files to change anything you like in the user interface. Once, you have finished modifying the main screen, it should be precise as you want. One of the primary downsides of Sublime is the process of finding all the right packages to have installed. Finding what is best for you will speed up the way that you do code. Once you have that, you can begin to download what you need and implement a new UI. You need to go to tools and download the Package Control. The Editor relies heavily on packages that you will need to install. Once that is done, and you open the software, you will notice it is quite bare. How do I use Sublime Text?įirst, you need to download Sublime Text and install it on your computer. Especially with Sublime, it strips away the excess while giving you an environment that allows you to code. Still, the focus is on Text Editing.Ī Text Editor allows you to make the most out of your coding time. On the other hand, it is possible to turn it into an IDE with specific plugins like the JavaScript Enhancement Plugin. This factor gives it an edge in speed and smooth coding as it doesn’t have to provide multiple functions.Īs such, unlike Visual Code Studio, it lacks debugging. ![]() What this means is you cannot test your code without transferring it to an Integrated Development Environment. No, Sublime Text at its core is merely a text editor for HTML, Python, and more. The program runs on Windows, Linux, and macOS. Patches to Sublime are quite regularly implemented, but overall upgrades and extra plugins are quite rare. ![]() They do provide a free 30-day trial for any who wants to get an idea of what it offers. ![]() ![]() ![]() However, that’s all changed with the recent launch of a major update, which adds a host of useful tools for photographers, artists, content creators, and designers.īest of all, the price is excellent - it offers real value for money and it’s a one-time buy. We were previously concerned about a lack of updates to the photo editor. The interface is clean and elegant, although perhaps a little too colorful, and the use of popup windows to access some parameters is distracting, but overall, if you’re used to such software, you’ll feel right at home in Affinity Photo. ![]() With so many tools we can’t possibly list them all, so we won’t even try - but it’s worth taking advantage of the 10-day free trial to discover them and test them out for yourself. It’s packed full of features that would rival its biggest competitors like Photoshop and is clearly designed for the prosumer or professional in mind. Serif Affinity Photo offers one of the best photo editor and compositor experiences, and it works great on a Mac or PC. ![]() It’s expensive but very, very good.Ī monthly subscription works out under $30 / £25 / AU$45. It doesn’t have Adobe’s mobile apps and online synchronization options either, but it does offer professional-grade ‘tethering’ tools for studio photographers capturing images via a computer. It’s compatible with over 450 camera models, but tethered capture only supports Canon, Sony, Nikon, and Phase One cameras.Ĭapture One Pro also has a better system for applying local adjustments, using adjustment layers and masks. Its raw conversions are sharper and less noisy than Adobe’s, but it doesn’t support such a wide range of camera raw formats or as large a number of lens correction profiles. Provided you’re happy to subscribe, Photoshop remains the best in the business for digital image editing.Ī Photoshop subscription costs around $30 / £25 / AU$45 per month.Ĭapture One Pro covers almost exactly the same territory as Adobe Lightroom Classic, offering cataloging tools, seamless raw processing, manual image enhancement tools alongside preset effects, and a non-destructive workflow that means you can revisit your adjustments at any time. Other more minor updates, such as new downloadable tutorial assets, show that Adobe is trying hard to justify the continued subscription cost. It’s so effective that it really needs to be seen to be believed. Sky Replacement is a more resounding success, detecting the horizon with impressive accuracy and masking out overcast skies. Impressive but faintly terrifying, features such as Skin Smoothing can be effective if deployed delicately. Its layering, masking, and retouching tools still set the standard by which others are judged, while the power of its layer-based editing system can handle the most complex of creative projects.įreshly updated, the latest Photoshop variant adds AI into the mix, with automated ‘neural filters’ which make otherwise laborious edits into one-click adjustments. Even after switching to a subscription model, the renowned software remains the go-to solution for artists, illustrators, designers, and photographers. Adobe Photoshop has long been a byword for image editing. ![]() ![]() # New Weapon: MP-44 with unique ammo type. This mod is not for newcomers, it is for experienced RtCW players who now find the vanilla version of the game easy to complete. Not a bad idea Activi$ion, is it? Too bad you’re too dumb to focus on anything except Call of Duty. The main goal of this mod is to make the RtCW singleplayer missions a bit more realistic and challenging. Just imagine how awesome the Multiplayer would be if it was a huge graphics upgrade more than anything else. It would also be a MUST for Wolfenstein fans like me. ![]() Would be an attraction to people that haven’t played the old one, either because the year of release gives them phobia or because they hadn’t heard of it in the first place. What if a developer team literally remakes the old RTCW with the graphical quality available today? Same missions? Why not? Played RTCW’s singleplayer a million times and I sure wouldn’t mind playing it again with revamped looks, and maybe a wider weapon selection. ![]() The publisher being Activision, it is obvious that they aren’t going to publish another FPS game when they can (and do) focus all their energy on a game called Call of Duty, especially these recent years.īut if Activi$ion thinks the billions of dollars they make out of Call of Duty sales every year isn’t enough, I do have an idea about what could be released for a good deal. Seems like Blaskowicz’s adventures ended with the 2009 sequel. So, what else? Any ideas left about the Wolfenstein theme? ![]() With the scope attachment the gun was optimized for long range sniping, but since the scope couldn’t be removed after being purchased, the gun became un-useable in close combat. Without the scope, this bolt-action rifle was already hard to use at closer ranges. One of these was the Scope attachment for the Kar98K rifle. Great idea, and came in really handy, until I realised that you cannot take “upgrades” off (not all upgrades actually made the gun better overall, they just made it better for specific circumstances, and rendered it un-useable in other situations). Essentially an underground shop from where you can buy weapons and ammunition, as well as upgrading your weapons. One feature that I particularly want to mention is the Black Market. German high rank officers turning into monsters using magic, the player getting a medallion which gives him super powers like slowing time and giving him more punch or protection. But in the 2009 sequel this is taken too far. Whilst the SS made a lot of catacomb discoveries and developed powerful weapons in side projects, they could not control the undead waking up, and as a result these same undead spelled their downfall as much as Blaskowicz does. RTCW went far enough to put an interesting touch to the game, with undead zombies and demons waking up. Whilst the graphics were obviously a huge improvement over the game’s 8 year older prequel, the game lost a lot of what little real life features the 2001 prequel actually had. I remember being so pumped up for this game, imagining the similar kind of missions that RTCW had, except with much better graphics and sounds. So in 2009 a sequel was released, simply named Wolfenstein. Enemy Territory upped the experience by focusing purely on Multiplayer and providing a number of new maps. It was simple, which is what made it so playable. ![]() The multiplayer was basically a US Ranger vs German SS battle for objectives, with unique objectives for every different map and class-specific weaponry. All in all, a super fun and challenging singleplayer. The missions alternate from those requiring you to explore and travel through catacombs to visiting German factories and military installations for the sabotage of powerful prototype weaponry that could alter the course of the war. What starts as a typical fight behind enemy lines to spy on SS activities in Northern Germany transforms into zombie and monster killing scenarios, with resurrected Saxon warriors trying to kill you, and fortunately, the soldiers of the SS paranormal division as well, who were dumb enough to dig into their graves. RTCW, in summary, is the adventure of a US Ranger working for a fictional Allied unit known as the OSA (Office of Secret Actions). If it wasn’t for work and studying, I’d be there playing it now, I am in fact a member of a clan in Enemy Territory. In 2003 its Multiplayer-only expansion pack Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory was released (originally intended as a typical expansion anyways, was released as freeware Multiplayer-only due to problems when developing the single-player aspect, pity) and it proved to be one of the most successful free downloadable games on the internet. Those were the good old days, a game with a super challenging and lengthy Singleplayer (back when singleplayer was actually considered important) and a super-fun Multiplayer. A 2001 appearance that left many gamers staring in awe. ![]() ![]() ![]() As I mentioned before, there’s not much in the way of collectibles, since exploration is non-existent, plus 90% of achievements are unlocked through normal play without even trying, so most players won’t feel the need to revisit Shadow Warrior 3 anytime soon. There’s no horde nor survival mode to be found (and believe me, they’d be easy to implement), and post-launch plans are unknown at this point. Much like its platforming, the gunplay and wisecracking characters deserved a more unique package, or at the very least… one that had more to offer after the credits rolled only six hours in. With plenty of indie devs looking at the big franchises for inspiration, but then working out their own mix of ingredients, Lo Wang’s third modern outing feels like a game that’s trying to please FPS enthusiasts by being the lesser version of a game that, quite honestly, only id Software could pull off in the way they did. And despite all that, it’s hard to make a case about why you should play Shadow Warrior 3 instead of the many amazing neo-boomer shooters out there. I love its gunplay the enemies are quite creative “gore weapons” are a great twist on DOOM‘s glory kills and the game’s final hour packs the most intense (linear) action I’ve experienced recently. ![]() But I felt like I was playing on autopilot - as the game passed the first-hour mark, I had already seen everything it had to offer, and only the locations and mix of enemies were changing. I enjoyed the hell out of my six-ish hours with Shadow Warrior 3. Shadow Warrior 3 does exactly what’s advertised on the cover, but I feel like it’s not enough when the price tag almost enters the full price zone. ![]() It’s refreshing to play a medium-budgeted single-player shooter so focused on delivering a short and sweet rollercoaster ride, but it’s hard to shrug off the feeling that Shadow Warriors 3‘s (excellent) platforming sections deserved their own space to shine, instead of being just small bits between Arena A and Arena B - DOOM Eternal understood the value of each of its parts and allowed players to breathe in between battles, packing memorable level design and secrets around every corner. In the same way, the gameplay has been refined to deliver hectic but tight shootin’ & slicin’ action that wastes no time with convoluted progression systems or exploration off the beaten path. Moreover, there are only four characters in the game (five if you count a spirit raccoon), with only two of them undergoing some sort of development, so many times you have to wonder if setting up the “antihero fighting self-doubt and depression” angle was even worth it for such a brisk and laser-focused action game. This is more than enough to fuel up five to six hours of classic FPS action, and some character beats (without getting into spoilers) are surprisingly poignant, but the narrative is generally kept to a minimum. The meager story hits the ground running with a massive ancient dragon threatening the entire planet and our potty-mouthed hero Lo Wang feeling down and unworthy of the status he built up across his two previous adventures. So much so that it lacks a unique personality in spite of the enjoyable blood-soaked breakneck action it offers from start to finish. Instead, they tried extremely hard to make it feel like this franchise’s DOOM Eternal. ![]() It seems like the developers listened to those concerns, as Shadow Warrior 3 is a big departure from the previous game. It was an evolution that mostly paid off, but a large number of veterans claimed maybe that wasn’t the path Shadow Warrior should follow. While the Shadow Warrior reboot (2013) flew under the radar, as the original IP wasn’t that popular to begin with, Shadow Warrior 2 (2016) was a bigger success story that dared to introduce looter-shooter elements into the classic “boomer shooter” FPS formula. Many players still think of them as the team behind 2011’s Hard Reset, but the truth is they’ve had an amazing last decade, consistently playing their cards right and tinkering with different genres and systems. Polish developer Flying Wild Hog are on a roll, quickly expanding beyond the borders of their rebooted Shadow Warrior games - Evil West and Trek to Yomi are among the most anticipated medium-sized releases launching in the near future. Lo Wang is back with the highly streamlined threequel of the rebooted Shadow Warrior saga. ![]() |
